Right now in between doing shoots for my clients I am working on a personal project. For this "pilot episode" my second model was new in front of the camera. I know that she can be bold if pushed, and I like her look so we gave it a shot. Images like this one (which fit in better with the context, but you get the idea) were especially challenging. In this part of the story she turns around to find her nemesis just behind her. The expression on her face is to be something like surprise, but not exactly, since she was aware she would meet up with her sooner or later. To get the look I needed here I had to give some direction that the model could connect with and understand. It is especially important that the model connect with and understand the direction so that it is something they can relate to and so that the model feels less silly; you would be surprised how many actors and models feel silly about what they are doing in front of a camera, especially in front of a blue screen. In this particular case I used something simple; I told her to pretend like she turned around and just saw her younger brother sneaking off with her journal.
